This is one that I know from experience. When our house burnt "up" or "down," we had to list what we lost. You think you know what you have but in a stressful situation, you will not remember everything.
Take a walking tour of your house with a video camera narrating what is there. If you can add dates to things purchased (Use & Care Booklet), that would also be very helpful. Identify the room and everything in it.
If you do not have access to a video camera, take pictures from all angles of each room. Make a book of the rooms like the Use & Care Booklet.
Make a copy for you and give a copy to someone that does not live near you so that they would not experience the same catastrophe. Or put a copy in the safe you have or the lock box at the bank.
