15 Things Every Little Bird Should Know How to Do

by Jan Allison
from Madison Baptist Church's Ladies' Array

Fifteen basic things every lady should know to be able to run her home to the best of her ability.

Emergency Home Kit | Use and Care Book | Inventory | Household Papers | Planning a Menu for the Week | Stocking a Pantry | Peanut Butter Cookies | Pastry for Pie Crust | Hard Boil an Egg | Pack a Suitcase | Set a Table | Make a Fruit Smoothie | Loading a Dishwasher | Making a Bed | Make Your Own First Aid Kit

Always read the material that comes with your dishwasher, as with any appliance that you purchase. It will give you vital information on what your appliance can do and not do.

  1. Look to see if you have two water distribution sites - one on the inside top of your unit and one on the bottom - or just one on the bottom. This will help you place your dishes to get the most from your dishwasher.
  2. Top Rack
    • Delicate glasses
    • Glasses and mugs go in rows between prongs
    • Bowls down center of top shelf
  3. Bottom Rack
    • Pots and heavy duty dishes
    • Plates - stagger small plates with large ones
    • Silverware - silver and stainless are separate - never touch - could cause chemical reaction and staining on silver

MAKE SURE NOTHING TOUCHES OR THEY MAY GET CHIPPED!

Things that should not go in your dishwasher:
  • China and crystal - wash by hand
  • Gold-plated flatware - it will discolor
  • Tin pots and pans - may rust
  • Wood - crack and warp
  • Cast iron - lose its seasoning and rust
  • Knives - become dull
  • Pewter, brass, bronze - tarnish
