Many years ago when Pastor took his first church we moved from a thriving city, Chattanooga, where I could get anything I needed just down the street to a little place with a post office and grocery store, Tennessee Ridge, and that was it!
A lady I worked with in Chattanooga taught me something very valuable and I have used it since that time.
For everything that you use (called staples) you have one that you are using and put one in the pantry. When you run out all you have to do is go to the pantry and get the one on hand then write that down on your grocery list to get another to replace in the pantry. Murphy's Law always works with staples - you run out when you are setting the table or in the middle of a recipe. We now live in the country and it takes 16 minutes one way to get to a grocery store. This method works!
It will take a little time to convert over to using this method. I suggest that one week you do cooking staples, another week refrigerator staples, another stocking canned goods until you have covered your entire kitchen. Now start on the laundry, then the bathroom. (Having extra toilet paper in a time of need is very important!)
